Celebrations ushered in 2015

New Year is definitely one of the most important traditional holidays celebrated in Japan, and today, Liang Court and Meidi-Ya supermarket ushered in 2015 with Taiko Drum, Shishimai (Japanese Lion Dance) Performances and Kigami-biraki (Sake barrel breaking ceremony).


The New Year celebration @ Liang Court will continues this Saturday, 3 January, with Mochi Pounding Demonstration by MEIDI-YA Supermarket, Taiko Drums performance and not forgetting the Japan New Year Games carnival (1 to 4 January) at the Main Atrium featuring popular favourites such as Roulette, 1,000 String, Kendama, Daruma Otoshi and Sugoroku.


Representative of Meidi-Ya Supermarket painted Fukusuke in one eye to symbolize the start of the New Year. Fukusuke, a Japanese lucky figure, is believed to increase the fortune and bring good luck.

Wooden masu sake cups are usually made from Kinoki wood from Japan
