Yokohama 横浜市: Japan Beer City

Tuesday, 27 January 2015

Yokohama 横浜市 is Japan's second-largest city, after Tokyo, and is probably the Beer City of Japan, according to Yokohama Beer Magazine. Besides being home to Japan's first commercial brewery, Kirin Beer, there are also several popular craft beer breweries and high density of bars and restaurants serving specialty beer in central Yokohama.

Come to October each year, Yokohama will host Oktoberfest at Akarenga which is one of the Japan's largest beer festivals with over 140,000 attending guests during the 17 days celebration in record. German beer and Japanese craft beer brewed in German styles are some highlights of this Oktoberfest.

Among other smaller craft beer festivals held in Yokohama, most popular is the BeerFes Yokohama which is held on a three-day holiday weekend in mid-September. This local festival features a variety of craft beer across Japan and has attracted over 10,000 beer enthusiasts each year.
