Japan Creative Centre, Embassy of Japan in Singapore, presents JCC Cinema 33: ‘Noriben - The Recipe for Fortune’ on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Directed by Akira Ogata, the 107 minute Japanese movie comes with English subtitle.

 

The movie screening is free and is limited seating. Interested participants are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment. Film Synopsis:

Komaki Nagai (Manami Konishi) is a thirty-something woman that was raised in the working-class Kyojima area of Tokyo. She has had enough of her unemployed aspiring writer husband, Noritomo Nagai (Yoshinori Okada) and moved back to Kyojima along with her young daughter, Noriko Nagai (Rio Sasaki) aka Nonchan. However, she has a difficult time making ends meet in this big metropolitan city of Tokyo.

 

While working for a part-time job, Komaki re-encounters her former senior high school classmate, Tateo Kawaguchi (Jun Murakami) where he took her to a small tavern called ‘Totoya’. There she was astonished after having eating the dish ‘Saba no Misoni’ (Mackerel braised in miso sauce). Completely enraptured by its taste and to get away from her current situation, she becomes determined and started to embrace on a journey to open a shop that sells ultimately cheap but tasty lunch box…
