One of the Japan’s largest summer festivals has kick-started in Aomori Prefecture yesterday with the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri 青森ねぶた祭り. Renowned internationally and designated as a significant intangible folk cultural asset of Japan, the festival usually features more than twenty large nebutas, large lantern floats decorated with human figures, are wheeled along the parade route in the city of Aomori.

Nebuta dancers, also known as Haneto, dance wildly to the hayashi music of the Nebuta Festival, adding to the excitement of the summer night event. The Aomori Nebuta Festival usually attracts as many as 3 million tourists a year.
