Bon Odori is a style of dancing performed during Obon and is originally a form of Nenbutsu folk dance to honour the spirits of their ancestors. Now, the Bon Odori festival has become a celebration for families to reunite and enjoy the summer holidays together; such festivals have since attracted many Japanese outside Japan.

If you are travelling to Kuala Lumpur this 26 September, it may be your opportunity to experience the Bon Odori summer festival at Publika Shopping Gallery, a 10-minute taxi ride from KL Sentral. The mall will be hosting its fourth Bon Odori Festival, from 4pm to 10pm, is expecting more than 1,000 local and Japanese participants. Performances and activities include Samurai Performance, Bon Odori Dance, Yosakoi Dance, Taiko Performance, Japanese Parade, Traditional Japanese Games, Taiko no Tatsujin and Fireworks.
